It was later Church leaders, as late as the 6th century, who identified Mary Magdalene with the prostitute or fallen woman in Luke's gospel, the one from whom Jesus cast seven devils.<br /><br />You make the point well, though, that current thinking separates Mary Magdalene and the prostitute of Luke's gospel.
